In January 2008 Jackie Volk became the newest member of the Mary Ryan’s family when she took over the Bulimba franchise. It was Jackie’s background in journalism and love of books which prompted her to make the move from a corporate environment to what she hopes will be a creatively more fulfilling role with Mary Ryan’s. She lives locally and loves the atmosphere of Oxford St’s shops and restaurants, so when the MR franchise became available it seemed almost too good to be true!
MR Bulimba is open seven days a week and is centrally located on bustling Oxford St – it’s the perfect meeting place for friends and families. Whether you’re shopping for the latest bestseller, a classic novel, some light-hearted chick lit, or are having trouble finding that book you saw on Oprah last week, the friendly and well-read staff will be happy to find the perfect book for you. You may even find out that you were looking for something you didn’t know you wanted!
Story telling for younger children is held on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:45 to 10:30 – feel free to bring the kids down and then sit back and relax with a delicious Merlo coffee or a refreshing T2 tea. Book club places are also still available and MR Bulimba offers both traditional evening book clubs and will also be starting up a Mum’s Book Club during the daytime.
