Last month, Mary Ryan's Hervey Bay proudly supported the Community Engagement Project, in raising the awareness of the importance of reading in the Hervey Bay community.  The Guinness World Record Attempt for 'most children reading with an adult' was a resounding success and Hervey Bay now holds the World Record.  Well done to all those involved in the project.  It was a great day to celebrate reading in the community and Mary Ryan's staff thoroughly enjoyed being involved is such a wonderful project. 

In May, we hosted the book launch for local author, Richard Yaxley's book, "Drink the Air".  Recently, Richard's book was short listed for the Qld Premier's Literary Award for young adult fiction.  This is a magnificent effort and we extend our congratulations to Richard for his well deserved nomination.  We will keep you posted with further news of the awards.

Meantime, this month, you can catch Richard's new play at the ZPac theatre. Locals will be familiar with Richard's work - both as author and playwrite.  This production is simply titled "Heart" and having attended the opening night production, we can highly recommend this latest offering from our Zpac performers. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Peformance dates are as follows:

August 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28th at 7.30pm

August 15 and 22nd at 2.00pm

Bookshop

At Mary Ryan's Hervey Bay we presently have two vibrant bookclubs operating.  One group meets on the first Thursday of the month at 9.30am.

The second Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 3.30pm.

Our Spring Good Book Guide is out soon  and there are some great new releases for the avid reader.

At Mary Ryan's Hervey Bay, you can choose to dine in air conditioned comfort in our coffee shop or dine alfresco in our shaded outdoor area.  Our coffee shop staff pride themselves on serving the best coffee in Hervey Bay.  Why not meet a friend at Mary's and try our delicious home made cheese cake or let us tempt you with our exclusive selection of cakes, slices, biscuits and chocolates?  Our sandwiches, wraps and paninis are made fresh daily.  Whatever your fancy, you won't be disappointed at Mary Ryan's.

We have recently added Dutch Pancakes (poffertjes) to our sweets menu.  Try them with maple syrup or berries and cream/ice cream.  Delicious! These are proving a popular choice with our regular customers.

Group bookings are welcome for special occasions or club meetings.  Please advise our staff in advance for catering purposes so that we can make your visit as comfortable as possible.

Location - Hervey Bay

Mary Ryan's Hervey Bay is located in the busy shopping and business centre at Bay Central, Pialba. Mary Ryan's is a unique bookstore with the addition of a coffee shop and in-store ABC Centre.

You will find us on the corner location of 5/15 Central Ave, between the Post Office and ANZ Bank and directly across the road from Centro shopping plaza and the bus terminal in Hervey Bay. Ample parking is available right outside the store and we are easily recognizable by the ABC Centre and Mary Ryan Logo's. Local buses run regularly to and from the bus terminal just across the road at Centro shopping Plaza.
