A little about our store
Want to know little about our store?
Who we are
Honestly, we are a bunch of book lovers. That is why we are still here. Between us we have over 50 years of bookselling experience. It still amazes me that when a customer comes in looking for "that book with the red cover about a small boy that I saw in your shop 2 years ago", invariably someone in here will know which title they are referring to.
Our aim is to help you find the book you really want, even if you don't know for sure yourself, not to sell you something you don't really want.
The staff review the books we have read and like, so come in and have a look through our staff picks.
To give you an idea of what we read here is a list of our all time favourites:
Wendy likes The Other Hand by Chris Cleave, Small Island by Andrea Levy and Broken by Daniel Clay. Kim likes To Kill A Mocking Bird by Lee Harper, Atonement by Ian McEwan and Notes From and Exhibition by Patrick Gale. Chris likes Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandella, Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien and Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel.
What we stock
It is true that we don't have lot of floor space in our cosy shop in Merthyr Village which is why we literally overflow with stock. Books from floor to ceiling, every available space is filled with goodies to tempt you. We like to think that we cater for all tastes with a large range of new release titles as well as plenty of the classics. From childrens books to cookbooks, fiction to non-fiction, architecture to history and what we don't have on the shelf we can usually find and order for you.
We don't only have books, we also have a selection of CDs which due to poplular demand is growing strongly as well as a neat range of gifts from book thongs to puzzles. Lately we have also expanded and improved our range of stationary and gifts cards.
Did you know we gift wrap for the price of a gold coin donation to our monthly charity ? Our charity this month is to the Guide Dogs. If you know of a worthy cause you would like us to support through these donations please let us know.
Our Aim
To create a place in which to feel calm and happy. A space to simply love being in. To give whatever help we can to people seeking the simple pleasures that books and music bring.
